The “IT Makeover” concept is similar to that of the popular ABC television show, “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” but with a key difference. While “Home Edition” features a crew of charismatic homebuilding experts who completely revamp/rebuild the dilapidated homes of families in need, Infusion Development, in cooperation with Microsoft, will perform a similar task, but for the IT department of a municipal agency. Specifically, we will replace/redesign a critical IT system for a city or municipality that is “in need". There will be no cost to the agency, and we will complete the task under an aggressive deadline of approximately two to four weeks.

We intend to prove that, with the correct application of the most recent technologies, development time/cost for complex applications may be reduced by an order of magnitude or more.

While there will be no cost to the agency selected, the solution is nonetheless intended to be complete and put into production when completed. The process of planning, development and deployment would be filmed, edited into the “makeover” format, and ultimately be shown as a sales/promotional tool for Microsoft technologies.

Here are some details about the promotional aspects and selection criteria for the program:

Promotion

  • The agency does not need to specifically endorse any product or company, it simply needs to speak on camera about the work actually done and its satisfaction with said work.
  • Planning sessions and efforts will be filmed on location at the agency. Infusion and agency will make “best efforts” to ensure that filming will minimally impact the agency’s day to day operations.
  • Specific employees and management of the agency will be selected to appear on-camera (with explicit consent) for interviews and participate in filmed design sessions before filming begins.
  • Any statement or inadvertent video/audio capture of data which the agency deems sensitive may be omitted

Candidate System/Agency Requirements

  • System must be relatively sophisticated, including multiple data sources.
  • System must be “critical path,” that is, important to the agency and of clear and immediate benefit to New York residents.
  • The agency will need to provide access to individuals familiar with the business and technical operation of all parts of the system.
  • Under “normal” circumstances, we are looking for a project that, if put out to bid, would require between 6-12 months of effort and be expected to cost approximately 1 million dollars or more.
  • We will need 24 access to systems or ability to develop applications off-site for work during off-hours.
  • Agency will provide requisite connectivity, software and working space for development efforts.
  • Infusion Development and the Agency will research potential applications and agree on a particular project prior to commencing the actual program.
  • Infusion Development has the authority and ability to determine the Microsoft tools/technologies it deems appropriate to complete the project
